Earlier, she wanted to be a doctor.
She joined Elite Modeling Agency in Delhi in 2003.
Before her Bollywood debut in 2005, she joined the Asmita Theatre Group, where she trained under the theatre director Arvind Gaur. Her first play was Girish Karnad’s Taledanda (Rakt-Kalyan).
She is one of the youngest Indian actresses to win the National Film Awards at the age of 22.
She has won four Filmfare Awards and three National Film Awards in different categories.
She is a non-vegetarian turned vegetarian and in 2013 she was listed as “India’s Hottest Vegetarian” by PETA.
She is a trained Kathak dancer.
